What We Do

Since 1970, we have supported and nurtured Latinx/Chicanx pre-health students at UCLA. En comunidad crecemos.

Our Mission

Established in 1970, Latinxs/Chicanxs for Community Medicine's (LCCM) mission is to recruit and maintain underrepresented pre-health students, by providing academic, professional, and personal support to Latinx pre-health students at UCLA and beyond. LCCM educates and allows members to develop a greater awareness of the healthcare issues in underserved communities through volunteering opportunities and through weekly meetings with health professional guest speakers.

About Us

LCCM comprises 34 dedicated Board Directors with experiences ranging from being Latinx, first-gen, low-income, LGBTQ+, pre-health, and/or science majors/minors. The organization is comprised of six branches: Executive Board, Student Services, ALMA, BLAIDS, DoT Org, and LSHP. Each branch has its primary focus and goals, with Executive Board and Student Services focusing on providing resources, retention, emotional support, academic support, and professional support. The additional branches: ALMA, BLAIDS, DoT Org, and LSHP are LCCM Projects that provide direct support to marginalized communities through a wide range of events from educating youth at high school sites to putting on health fairs. Projects allow volunteers to gain first-hand experience with these communities in hopes of increasing their cultural humility and equipping them to become exceptional healthcare providers.
